The jury of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, led by Garrick Ohlsson, selected 11 competitors to perform in the final stage. Poland’s Piotr Alexewicz stands as the nation’s last representative, carrying local hopes into the decisive round.
The world of classical piano now celebrates the announcement of the finalists, with Alexewicz emerging as the only Polish artist to reach the final performance stage.
Established in 1927, the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition remains one of the most esteemed and historic music contests globally. From its beginning, the event has focused entirely on Chopin’s works, preserving the master composer’s influence through every generation of pianists.
International Line-Up Poised for Musical Excellence
The finalists joining Alexewicz include Kevin Chen (Canada), David Khrikuli (Georgia), Shiori Kuwahara (Japan), Tianyou Li (China), Eric Lu (United States), Tianyao Lyu (China), Vincent Ong (Malaysia), Miyu Shindo (Japan), Zitong Wang (China), and William Yang (United States).
Each pianist will perform Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op. 61, followed by one of two piano concertos — E minor, Op. 11 or F minor, Op. 21 — accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra under Andrzej Boreyka’s direction.
The final performances are scheduled from October 18 to 20, with sessions beginning each evening at 6 p.m.
