Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has said the club is not close to spending £100m on a single player, unlike rivals Arsenal.
Spurs have entered a new era following the removal of Daniel Levy as chair and the appointment of a new leadership team by the Lewis family. While plans are in place to grow the club’s business and sporting success, Frank admitted Tottenham are still some way from matching Arsenal’s spending power. Arsenal signalled their ambition in 2023 with the £105m signing of Declan Rice, while Spurs’ record transfer remains Richarlison’s £60m move in 2022.
Frank questioned whether former boss Ange Postecoglou was right to say Spurs would never spend £100m on one player, joking that it could happen “in the next 50 years”. He stressed the importance of time, process and smart investment, adding: “I don’t think we are close to spending £100m, put it that way.”
He also emphasised the need to develop existing players rather than relying solely on expensive signings, pointing to Liverpool and Manchester City as examples of clubs that built success through a combination of development and recruitment.
Tottenham recently received £100m in funding from the Lewis family, with further investment expected, and Frank said he is confident the board will support him in building a competitive squad.
