Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United, just seven months after leading derogatory chants about current Blades manager Chris Wilder during Leeds United’s promotion celebrations.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds in August, has signed a short-term deal with the Championship club until January. Despite past tensions between the pair, Wilder has welcomed the move as United look to solve their goal-scoring woes.
Bamford and Wilder’s feud dates back to 2018–19, when Wilder called him “a muppet” during a promotion battle. However, following the viral chant incident in April, Bamford and Leeds boss Daniel Farke both phoned Wilder to apologise.
“I’ve no issue at all with it,” Wilder said at the time. “He called me, and we had a good chat. That’s football — we give it and take it.”
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but has struggled with injuries in recent years. He joins Sheffield United hoping to reignite his career and help lift the club out of the Championship relegation zone.
