The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution backing an independent Palestinian state and a two-state solution.
The resolution condemns Hamas’s October 7 attack on southern Israel and Israel’s siege and starvation policies in Gaza.
Widespread International Support
Out of 193 member states, 142 voted in favor, 10 opposed, and 12 abstained from the New York Declaration.
France and Saudi Arabia presented the resolution, calling for Palestinian Authority control over all Palestinian territories.
Hamas Disarmament and Hostage Release
The declaration orders Hamas to end its rule in Gaza, surrender weapons, and release all hostages immediately.
The Palestinian Authority must assume full governing responsibilities once the ceasefire begins.
UN Mission to Ensure Safety
The resolution proposes a UN-backed mission to protect Palestinian civilians and guarantee safety for both Palestinians and Israelis.
The mission would support peaceful transfer of governance, monitor the ceasefire, and oversee the path toward lasting peace.
