Plans to stage a Serie A match between AC Milan and Como in Australia have been abandoned.
The fixture was due to be played in Perth and would have been the first European league match held abroad.
Serie A said the proposal collapsed after “unacceptable” late demands from the Asian Football Confederation.
Serie A president Ezio Simonelli cited financial risks and escalating conditions as decisive factors.
The move had been approved because the San Siro is unavailable during the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics.
Uefa had reluctantly cleared the plan, seeing it as a chance to promote Italian football globally.
The AFC reportedly insisted on controlling match officials, complicating final arrangements.
Serie A said earlier this month those issues were resolved, but further demands followed.
The cancellation mirrors a recent decision by La Liga to drop plans for a match in Miami.
