David Raya extended his remarkable unbeaten run as Arsenal matched a club record for consecutive clean sheets that has stood since 1903. The Spanish goalkeeper was rarely tested during the 3-0 Champions League win over Slavia Prague, with the only scare — a late penalty — overturned by VAR.
Raya, who has now gone more than 12 hours without conceding, made just his seventh save in four European games this season. His performances have helped Arsenal to eight straight shutouts and 10 consecutive victories in all competitions.
Despite the dominance of Mikel Arteta’s side, Raya insists focus is key:
“You never know when the other team is going to have a chance. I have to be alert for 90 or 100 minutes every game,” he said.
Arteta praised the 30-year-old’s professionalism and concentration, while Raya credited goalkeeping coach Iñaki Caña, his longtime mentor from Brentford, for helping refine his proactive style.
Raya boasts the Premier League’s best save success rate (84.2%) and among the highest speeds for goalkeepers in both England and the Champions League — underlining his evolution into a modern sweeper-keeper.
As Arsenal chase more records, Raya remains grounded: his neck tattoo — the date of his Premier League debut for Brentford — is a reminder of how far he’s come from non-league football to the top of Europe’s elite.
