After Erling Haaland missed a controversial early penalty, he made amends by heading in his 19th goal of the season. A deflected strike from Nico González made it 2-0 before halftime, and Jérémy Doku sealed the win with a brilliant curling effort after tormenting Liverpool’s defence all game.
Liverpool had a Virgil van Dijk goal ruled out for offside, but City’s control and intensity left them with few complaints.
The win marked Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game as a manager, and his side looked every bit the champions-in-waiting, while Liverpool suffered a fourth straight away league defeat for the first time since 2012.
