Manchester City delivered a dominant performance at the Etihad, sweeping Manchester United aside 3–0 to strengthen their position at the top of the Women’s Super League. Goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp sealed a statement win for Andrée Jeglertz’s in-form City side.
United, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back league defeats for the first time since 2024, looking physically worn after their historic Champions League victory over PSG earlier in the week. Manager Marc Skinner admitted his team “gave City those goals” and emphasised the need for reinforcements in January.
City were sharp from the start, their attacking movement repeatedly stretching United’s defence. All three goals arrived within 21 minutes during a ruthless first-half burst: Knaak headed in after Shaw’s knockdown, Shaw finished a sweeping move moments later, and Hemp drilled home a powerful long-range strike before the break.
United introduced Melvine Malard in the second half, but the damage was already done. They failed to register a shot on target, with Jess Park’s effort off the post their only close call.
City could have added more, with Shaw missing a late one-on-one, but the victory was already secure. After beating both Arsenal and United this season, City’s title credentials look stronger than ever.
