Germany stormed into next year’s World Cup with a dominant 6-0 win over Slovakia, securing top spot in their group and sending their opponents into the playoffs. Four first-half goals — from Nick Woltemade, Serge Gnabry and a Leroy Sané double — put the result beyond doubt before Ridle Baku and 19-year-old debutant Assan Ouédraogo added late goals.
The Netherlands also booked their place at the finals with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Lithuania, finishing three points ahead of Poland in Group G. Goals from Tijjani Reijnders, Cody Gakpo, Xavi Simons and Donyell Malen sealed the win.
Poland kept their hopes alive with a dramatic 3-2 win in Malta, securing a playoff spot thanks to Piotr Zielinski’s late strike. Robert Lewandowski and Pawel Wszolek were also on target.
Northern Ireland ended their campaign with a 1-0 win over Luxembourg, courtesy of Jamie Donley’s first international goal from the penalty spot, though their playoff place was already assured through the Nations League.
The Czech Republic cruised to a 6-0 win over Gibraltar, scoring five before half-time, while Croatia finished top of their group after fighting back from 2-0 down to beat Montenegro 3-2.
