Celtic are advancing negotiations with Wilfried Nancy as they move closer to appointing the Columbus Crew manager as Brendan Rodgers’ successor.
The Scottish champions informed the MLS club of their plans on Friday, with compensation not expected to be an issue. Nancy is reportedly keen on the move, and Celtic aim to have him in charge before next weekend’s clash with St Mirren, ending Martin O’Neill’s brief caretaker spell.
Nancy, who guided Columbus Crew to seventh in the MLS Eastern Conference this season, fits Celtic’s desired profile of an emerging, progressive coach willing to work within the club’s transfer structure.
While Kieran McKenna was initially the frontrunner, the Ipswich Town boss is reluctant to leave and would command a significant fee. Robbie Keane and Kjetil Knutsen were also considered, but head of football operations Paul Tisdale has identified Nancy as the preferred candidate.
