Ruben Amorim criticised his Manchester United side for becoming complacent after they surrendered control in a 3-3 draw at Tottenham, despite leading for much of the game.
United looked set for victory after Bryan Mbeumo’s opener, only to collapse under second-half pressure as Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the game around. A 96th-minute header from Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point, extending United’s unbeaten run to five matches — but Amorim was far from satisfied.
“We have a lot of problems — we are just at the beginning,” Amorim said. “We were comfortable in the game, but we should do better, be more aggressive. The three points were there to take. We felt too comfortable, and in one play, everything changed.”
There was further concern for United with Benjamin Sesko suffering an apparent knee injury late on.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank defended his substitutions after fans booed the decision to replace Xavi Simons with Tel, who equalised just five minutes later.
“Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank admitted. “But every substitution I make is to try to win. Tel did well — a great moment.”
While Spurs remain without a home league win since mid-August, Frank insisted his team are progressing.
“We’re so close. Every other day we win that game,” he said. “Overall it was a good performance against a Manchester United side that’s definitely in flow.”
