Afghanistan claimed its troops killed 58 Pakistani soldiers in overnight clashes along the shared border.
Officials said the attack came after Pakistan allegedly violated Afghan territory and airspace several times.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban government’s chief spokesman, said Afghan troops captured 25 Pakistani outposts.
He added that 30 Pakistani soldiers sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Mujahid told reporters in Kabul that Afghan forces had full control over all borders and had halted illegal activity.
Kabul and Islamabad Trade Accusations
Earlier in the week, Afghan leaders accused Pakistan of bombing Kabul and a market in eastern Afghanistan.
Pakistan did not take responsibility for the reported airstrikes.
The Taliban Defence Ministry described the latest fighting as “retaliatory and successful operations” along the frontier.
It warned that Afghan forces would strongly respond to any further violation of its territory.
Pakistan has previously launched strikes on alleged militant bases inside Afghanistan, usually in remote mountain areas.
Both nations have clashed frequently along their rugged and poorly defined border.
Rising Regional Tensions and Political Fallout
Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of sheltering members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan group.
Islamabad says the group orchestrates deadly attacks across Pakistan, while Kabul denies offering any refuge.
Pakistan continues to battle rising militancy in regions near the Afghan border and accuses India of aiding armed groups.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his military delivered a “befitting reply” and forced Afghan troops to retreat.
Security officials released videos allegedly showing destroyed Afghan checkpoints, though independent verification remains impossible.
The Pakistani army reported killing over 200 “Taliban and affiliated terrorists” in counterattacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
